Technology

We work with a wide range of commerical and open-source technologies on a daily basis. We produce web-based content in XHTML and CSS, usually adhering to web standards. We use PHP and ColdFusion for web application development work along with MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle databases. We produce client-side scripting in JavaScript and, less so, Flash. Email campaigns go through Campaign Monitor.

We stand on the shoulders of giants with platform frameworks, content management systems, open-source tools, and open APIs. The PHP object-oriented framework symfony helps us to develop complex web applications better and more quickly. We've used Joomla, Drupal, and Textpattern for content management. The Firefox Web Developer addon (and Firefox in general) just blows us away. And we increasingly make use of the powerful functionality delivered by the APIs from Flickr and YouTube.

Our professional development activities range from user groups (like the wonderful Central New York ColdFusion User's Group), email discussion groups, staff collaboration, and lots and lots of reading. Favorite sites include:

As developers, we use Adobe tools (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop) and TextMate. The source code version control system Subversion ensures that our distributed workforce can collaborate safely and productively on projects and that we can make best use of consultant partners. We store sensitive client data using KeePass.
