The Goal

Lead a team of internal staff and outside agency folks through a year of careful planning, implementation, testing, and launch of the redesign of the website for this Syracuse-area independent school. Make sure that the site puts desired content in easy-to-find places for students, parents, alums, prospective families, and other groups.

The Solution

While our firm spent lots of time writing code, realizing designs as valid markup, and configuring databases, our most important contribution to this effort was project management and consulting advice. We made sure that deadlines got met and budgets weren't exceeded. We served as liaison with hosting companies and other vendors. We offered our advice on search engine visibility, usability, coordination with offline marketing, and other issues. And we made sure that everyone involved in the project stayed on the same page.

We spent an inordinate amount of time testing the site: we led individual user-testing sessions for representative users and, more importantly, listened to testing feedback to improve the site.

Built using ColdFusion and CSS, validating as standards-compliant XHTML, and managed by school staff, the site has been a big success with parents, alums, and other groups.
